Thing 19 – Tweet, tweet – Twitter

Twitter Twitter Twitter disturbs me - whilst after reading all the good things twitter can be used for unfortunately all you do read and hear about is celebrity slanging matches and quite frankly it puts me right off.

I have never used it but I  know people who do and they have showed me many tweets and the type of people they are following and I am disappointed as I have never been shown anything along the lines of  people following people as a tool for building professional contacts and for staying up to date in their area of study or career.  I don't have anything positive to say unfortunately.

  1. I'm just catching up reading your posts. I have a twitter account but don't really post on it. I don't want to become a slave to technology. However, it is quite useful at a conference when you cannot attend a session, you can catch up on what is being discussed. Also this is where I got my feedback on a paper I presented at the ALIA Biennial conference last year.

I haven't really kept up with Facebook and Twitter. The main web 2.0 tools I use are my favourite blogs and RSS feeds in Google Reader to keep updated on new posts. And I like it when the WHOLE article is displayed in Google Reader, not just a teaser. That is frustrating.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    1. I know it is a negative post but I had to be honest. Thanks for contributing to my blog V

  2. I would hate it if you were not honest. As Vicki said- it's really useful when following conferences or talks if you cannot be there. The level of tweets shwon on Q&A and even My Kitchen Rules demeans the power of Twitter and brings it down to its very basic level.
Keep an open mind about Twitter (this program is about trying and awareness raising after all) if you ever go conferencing ;)
