It took me a little while to get the hang of it and for some reason I didn't enjoy this "thing" too much......however I did persist and subscribe to 5 feeds.
I can see how people can use RSS feeds for their work but for the position I hold I wouldn't need to. I did subscribe to news sites and television shows and subjects I find intersesting but I am not sure anyone else would!
In higher education RSS feeds could be used to automatically update subscribers on things such as scholarly publishers, databases, electronic journals and books. Library related uses may include RSS feeds of new book titles, news alerts from different subject areas and announcing library related events.
Do you subscribe to Library Biz? I have the feed into my OUltook so that I can see when a new post is published.
ReplyDeleteOr are there any other aspects of library work/blogs you follow- that you could subscribe to?
RSS is a little tricky at first- but glad you perservered with subscribing to some feeds.
I use RSS feeds a lot for subscribing to personal interest blogs and to library related blogs, like the Information Literacy Weblog. I use Google Reader for this and also an app. called Reeder on my iPad to view the feeds.
ReplyDeleteIn Outlook, I subscribe to Library Biz, the Research blog and Thesis Whisperer.
You can create RSS alerts in Library Search when tou save a Search Query, so you are alerted when a new item that meets your search criteria is added. A lot of databases have this feature too.
I love it and can really get hooked on blogs like Tiny Buddha, Zen Habits, Positively Present and Positive Provocations to name a few of the blogs I follow.
